May is the best month to hike the Parnassos - Amfiklia trail and Sunday is the best day to escape from the rhythms of everyday life. It is not a classic hike but an opportunity to escape from Athens just before our summer holidays. The Parnassos trail is a route that every year dozens of people run it in the Trail Running Race of Amfiklia. The trail has some parts where we will need our fitness but don't worry, some people run the trail. Along the way, we will be hiking while gazing at the bulk of Mount Parnassus rising in front of us and the fir trees making sure to protect us from the sun. The cave monastery of Agiassarli will be waiting for us carved into the rock and the chapel of Agios Ioannis will be waiting for us to rest in its courtyard.
Our route starts from the village of Amfiklia. We will first head towards Agiarsali to admire this one of a kind Monastery that during the revolution served as a shelter for the inhabitants of Amfiklia but it is rumoured that Ulysses Androutsos had his boat there. Then after hiking backwards for a while we will rejoin the path to head towards the chapel of Agios Ioannis. Towards the chapel we will have a steep uphill where we will reach the highest point of the trail. Upon reaching the chapel we will rest in its beautiful location and then return to Amfiklia.
- The Amfiklia excursion and the excursion to Tripis waterfalls will be served by the same coach.
